1. What is a commodity barcode?
Commodity barcode is a special symbol that converts a digital code that represents product information into a set of regularly arranged parallel lines. In 1970, the American grocery industry took the lead in using this kind of "identity card" on food packaging carriers, which is the "common language" for commodities circulating in the international market.
2. Why use barcodes on products?
commodity barcode is the basis for realizing commercial modernization, and it is the ticket to enter the supermarket and POS scanning store. In a scanning store, when the customer finishes purchasing the goods and pays at the cashier counter, the cashier only needs to lightly swipe the product with the barcode on the table equipped with the laser scanner, and then quickly enter the number under the barcode into the computer , Through inquiry and data processing, the machine can immediately identify the product manufacturer, name, price and other product information and print out the shopping list. In this way, not only can the automatic management of sales, warehousing and ordering be realized, but also sales information can be grasped by manufacturers in a timely manner through the production, supply, and sales information system. Barcode has become a prerequisite for commodities to enter the supermarket. Commodity barcode is the only way for companies to improve market competitiveness and expand foreign trade exports. It is a prerequisite for the automation of production and circulation, and it is also a technical guarantee for manufacturers to adjust product structure in a timely manner.
3. How to use product barcode?
Commodity barcode is generally printed on the product packaging, or it is made into a barcode label and attached to the product. For small batch products, barcodes can also be printed on stickers.
Fourth, the form and structure of commodity barcodes
There are two forms of product barcode, namely standard code and shortened code. Standard code: A bar code consisting of 13 digits is called a standard code. The size of the standard code is 37.29mm×26.26mm, the range of the magnification factor is 0.80-2.00, and the interval is 0.05.
The 13-digit number composition of the standard code can be divided into two situations:
First: The barcode starting with 690, 691 consists of 7-digit manufacturer code, 5-digit product code and 1-digit check code;
Example: 690MMMMM PPPPP C
Manufacturer code Commodity code Check code
Second: For the barcode starting with 692, it consists of an 8-digit manufacturer code, a 4-digit product code and a 1-digit check code.
Shortened code: A bar code consisting of 8 digits is called a shortened code. Only when the size of the standard code exceeds 25% of the total printing area, the shortened code is allowed to be declared. The size of the shortened code is: 26.73mm×21.64mm, the range of the magnification factor is 0.80-2.00, and the interval is 0.05. The 8-digit number of the shortened code is composed of a 7-digit product code and a 1-digit check code.
Example: 69××××× C
